CALL ME KUCHU is the documentary about Uganda and the life of David Kato who was the first out-of-the-closet gay man in the country that made homosexuality a crime punishable by death. The war on the LGBT community and struggle of Kato to live day to day was captured in the award winning doc film and director Katherine Fairfax Wright shares the film with footage and the trailer in this BYOD interview.

CALL ME KUCHU is co-directed by Katherine Fairfax Wright and Malika Zouhali Worrall. It premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and has since garnered over 18 awards at film festivals around the world including the Teddy Award for Best Documentary at Berlin, Best International Doc at Hot Docs, and the Audience Award at Frameline. The film is on DVD and Movies on Demand now.

Katherine Fairfax Wright graduated from Columbia University with a double major in Film Studies and Anthropology. She produced GABI ON THE ROOF IN JULY (2010), associate-produced the award-winning documentary LUMO, and has worked in a producing role on several other films. She is also an award-winning photographer. Katherine is a Chaz & Roger Ebert Directing Fellow, as well as an alumnus of the Film Independent Documentary Lab, the Garrett Scott Documentary Development Grant at Full Frame, and the Film Independent Producing Lab.
