Bowe Bergdahl was charged with desertion for supposedly walking away from his platoon in Afghanistan and into enemy hands. After a military panel recommended that he not be convicted of desertion, conservative politicians and media-including John McCain and Fox News-made outspoken criticisms of Bergdahl and the Obama administration handling of his exchange.
