DEA Has Expanseive Surveillance Tech and Began Spying on Americans Long Before NSA

The DEA has purchased $2.4 million worth of surveillance equipment from Italian spyware contractor Hacking Team, who has sold surveillance tools to countries with the worst human rights records in the world, that can intercept phone calls, texts, social media and webcam videos, according to a report by Motherboard. The software, known as Remote Control System, is allegedly being used by the agency to spy on suspected criminals. Are these methods becoming commonplace in law enforcement?
