Doggy Style Sex Is Better For Your Back Than Spooning

Synopsis

A new study on sex positions has some bad news for cuddle bugs - the spooning position is not the most ideal for people with back problems. The new scientific evidence could support the efforts of anti-intimacy individuals who are seeking an excuse to avoid spooning with their partners.

Research conducted by Canada’s University of Waterloo dealt with 10 couples to study how men’s spines move during sex, to determine the most comfortable position for those who suffer from back problems.

Results published in The Spine Journal revealed how doggy style sex positions are “considered the most spine-sparing of the positions.”

Those who are “motion intolerant” should avoid all positions, while men who are “flexion-intolerant” - where back pain is worsened by touching their toes or sitting for long periods - should replace spooning with doggy-style positions, the research found.

In general, those with back issues should use a “hip-hinging” motion during sex, rather than thrusting with their backs, according to the study.
