Let's talk about it.

Candidate Posts Fake Obama Letter, Typos and All

What Democratic candidate wouldn’t love to have an official endorsement letter personally signed by the president of the United States? This was apparently the case for Florida politician Derrick Wallace – a candidate running for a commission seat in central Orange County – who proudly posted a letter purportedly from President Barack Obama to his Facebook page.

But it turns out the letter was a fake, and questions are now being raised about why Wallace failed to verify the authenticity of the endorsement or recognize several typos and misspellings that should have raised a red flag.

“Derrick, it has come to my attention that you are being accused of not supporting me and my campaigns,” the letter starts out stating. “I have penned this note to all concerned that you fully supported me during my initial campaign and my re-election.”

So far, so good, right? But then come obvious clues that the letter could never have officially come from the White House.

“You and your lovely wife Sharon were kind enough to house and accomadate my campaign volunteers in Orlando. Good luck on your election. As you know, as the number one democrat of the Democratic Party, I do not get in the middle of campaigns between two democrats. However, let this note be my wink and node,” the letter states.

The word “accomadate,” is of course spelled wrong, and the word “nod” appears as “node.” In addition, the word “Democrat” is incorrectly spelled with a lower case “d.”

Derrick still maintains that he believed the letter was authentic and wouldn’t have posted it if he knew it was fake.
