Food Industry Wants To Keep Added Sugar Off The Label

The food industry is fighting and FDA proposal to force them to include the added sugar they use to the labeling of foods. With 80% of foods in grocery stores containing added sugars, the nutritional content has been misleadingly tabulating the total sugar that products have without differentiating the amount that has been added by companies-ranging from bread to juice and a wide spectrum of foods. The cranberry industry is fighting the improved labeling in particular, with cranberries routinely supplemented by a high amount of sugar to make the bitter berries more palatable.
