The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, known for their climate change rhetoric, held at least $1.4b of investments in the world’s largest fossil-fuel companies, based on its most recent tax filing in 2013, according to an investigation conducted by The Guardian. Does the Foundation have a moral and financial responsibility to divest its holdings in fossil-fuel companies, and should it be held accountable for profiting from companies that are contributing to the very problem it is trying to solve?
