Gov. Rick Snyder Gets Federal Racketeering Charges Over Lead Crisis

The citizens of Flint, Michigan have brought a federal racketeering lawsuit against governor Rick Snyder alleging that the city’s lead water crisis was the result of an “intentional scheme” to balance the city’s budget deficient. The potential lawsuit names more than 400 plaintiffs. Attorneys claim that state officials, contractors and emergency managers appointed to run Flint had “the intent and purpose of balancing the Flint City budget through a pattern of racketeering activity.” The two year period Flint was connected to the Flint River the city’s deficit was reversed and resulted in a $3.3m surplus as of June, 2015.
