XStat, an injectable sponge that is used to treat gunshot wounds, recently saved the life of a coalition forces soldier who was shot in the leg by stopping femoral artery bleeding when no other treatment worked. The case marks the first clinical use of the product. The hemostatic device, which was developed by RevMedx Inc., works by pumping tiny, expandable sponges into a wound to stop internal bleeding.
