Actor Hugh Jackman is once again bringing attention to skin cancer after being treated for his third case in under a year.
The star posted an image on Instagram of the song “Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen),” along with the simple message: “SUNSCREEN!”
Jackman also went public with his previous bouts with skin cancer, the most common form of cancer diagnosed in the United States and responsible for the deaths of nearly 10,000 people each year. However, it is also one of the most preventable types of cancer.
Melanoma - the most dangerous type of skin cancer - can almost always be cured in its early stages, but is likely to spread to other parts of the body if not caught early,” according to the American Cancer Society.
As correctly noted by Jackman, applying sunscreen is the most obvious and effective method for preventing skin cancer, but research indicates that nutrition can also reduce the risk of developing the disease.
The top five foods found to reduce the risk of skin cancer include: fruits and vegetables (generally the darker ones are better), chia seeds, fresh herbs (especially sage, rosemary, parsley and basil) tea and wine.
