Iran’s government is moving to ban vasectomies and restrict access to contraceptives in an effort to boost its population and avoid the “western lifestyle.” The proposed laws would reverse a relatively liberal stance on sexual health and education in the country, which until now has offered subsidized vasectomies, free condoms, cheap contraceptives, and widely available education on family planning. The laws would also establish a very clear priority for children-bearing families and likely discriminate against women who won’t have access to the same level of education and health programs. We take a look at the proposals, in this Lip News clip with Gabriel Mizrahi and Jo Ankier.
