A plastic-eating bacteria that can eat Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), one of the world’s most used plastics, has been discovered by scientists in Japan, according to a report published in the journal Science. PET, which is commonly used to package bottled drinks, cosmetics and household cleaners, is considered a major environmental hazard because it’s highly resistant to breakdown.
