A group of strippers at a New York club have won a lawsuit seeking back wages and tips and will be paid collectively more than $10 million.
The class-action case was filed against the Manhattan club Rick’s Cabaret by dancers who were not receiving steady wages.
The exotic dancers would instead pay the club a fee to be able to perform and would be paid directly by customers - $20 for personal dances and $100 or more for 15 minutes of entertainment in semi-private rooms.
Many of the dancers had a problem with the pay scheme though and ended up in the red after paying required fees to the club, deejays, etc.
There are expected to be additional claims filed in the class action lawsuit.
The club’s Houston-based owner, RCI Hospitality Holdings Inc., is planning to appeal the payout settlement and said in a statement it would continue to “vigorously defending the allegations.”
