President Obama has cut all funding for abstinence-only sex ed in his proposed 2017 budget. The $10 million per year that would be allocated to abstinence only education will be moved to increase programs that support comprehensive sexual education. Congress has spent more than $1.5 billion over the last 25 years on abstinence-only education, many of these programs have been seen as failures. Obama’s proposal includes a 5-year extension on the Personal Responsibility Education Program, a $4 million increase for the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program and maintain funding for the CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health. Obama’s budget proposal still needs to make it though House and Senate committees. Sasha Kai Parker and Margaret J.
