President Obama warned of a potential threat to US citizens if Congress continued to block gun regulation measures a week prior to the Pulse nightclub mass shooting. On June 1, President Obama appeared on PBS NewsHour’s town hall and addressed gun legislation that allows those on the ‘no fly’ list to legally purchase guns because of aggressive lobbying by the National Rifle Association (NRA) and gridlock in Congress. Since the mass shooting in Orlando, Conservatives rushed to blame Mr. Obama’s inaction against ISIS as the cause rather than address their connections to the interests of the NRA. The NRA and many Conservatives claimed that since watch lists such as the FBI’s “terror list” and “no fly” list are so large with names and the reasons for being on the list relatively wide, such measures would infringe on the second amendment rights of citizens.
