The Women’s Protection Act, which gives legal protection to women from domestic, psychological and sexual violence, was passed by Pakistan’s largest province of Punjab last week. Now, a powerful Pakistani religious body that determines the compatibility of laws with Islam on Thursday declared the new law to be “un-Islamic” and in conflict with the country’s constitution.
