Parents Who Don’t Vaccinate Children Face Jail Time in Uganda

Uganda is going to start jailing parents who fail to vaccinate their children, according to a new law signed this month by President Yoweri Museveni. Children will also be banned from going to school unless they have an immunization card. The law has been put in place to help stop the spread of several life-threatening diseases including polio and meningitis. 70 out of every 1,000 children in Uganda will die before they turn five, the World Health Organization estimated in 2015.
