Rodrigo Duterte, known as Asia’s Donald Trump, was sworn in as the 16th president of the Philippines on Thursday, after winning the election in May by 16 million votes. In his inaugural speech he highlighted the country’s problems of corruption, crime and illegal drugs and promised to reform the country’s political system. He also responded to those who have criticized his methods of fighting criminality saying, “I know the limits of the power and authority of the president. I know what is legal and what is not. My adherence to due process and the rule of law is uncompromising.” We look at Duterte’s speech on the Lip News with Joya Mia Italiano and Nik Zecevic.
