Russia has deployed the “Growler” anti-aircraft missile defense system to Syria in response to claims that ISIS and other terrorist cells have gained access to technology for the production of chemical weapons. The S-400 Air Defense System claims to be able to take down jets as far away as Tel Aviv, and can cover most of Syria, southern Turkey, Cyprus, Israel and the eastern Mediterranean. The S-400 is also capable of intercepting cruise missiles making it a major threat to military aircrafts.
