Saudi Arabia Punishing Wives with Flogging & Jail for Checking Husbands Phones Without Permission

Saudi women are facing flogging and imprisonment for checking their husbands cell phones without permission. The “Ta’zir offense” has been deemed a violation of privacy since it is not covered in the country’s Islamic laws. Senior lawyer Mohammed al-Temyat has said “It is a Ta’zir offence not identified legally, so the punishment is dependent on the damage caused from it. If there was no damage caused, there could be no punishment.” Female twitter users have used their accounts to express their outrage of the new law and the continued double standards that plague the country and only serve to create more complicated marriages that are burdened with suspicion.
