Speed-dating and other forms of matchmaking are being encouraged by the Japanese government in order to boost the the country’s birth rate after it fell to a record low in 2014. The draft legislation outlining measures to increase the number of people having children in the country says that local authorities will receive government funding if they organize these types of events.
