Ted Cruz formally announced this morning at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia that he’s running for president in 2016, becoming the first Republican candidate to declare himself officially in the race. In the speech, the Texas Senator reaffirmed his criticisms of President Obama on issues like health care, immigration, foreign policy, and same-sex marriage while leaving time to preemptively take aim at some of his potential rivals for the Republican nomination including Florida Governor Jeb Bush. It’s also worth noting that Cruz was formally born in Canada, bringing into question whether he is actually a natural born US citizen. We take a look at the announcement and discuss the reason for Cruz’s early entry into the race, in this Lip News clip with Jackie Koppell.
