A University of Alabama student has started a petition asking that a campus building be renamed to honor an alumna, Pulitzer Prize winner and To Kill A Mockingbird author Harper Lee, instead of a Ku Klux Klan leader. The petition, which was posted online four days ago following Lee’s death, has already gathered over 2,000 digital signatures. Should symbols of the country’s racist past be changed if they offend people today, or would doing so amount to erasing history?
