The Pentagon has approved a deal to sell roughly $700 million worth of smart bombs to Turkey. Turkey recently intensified its military efforts against the Kurdish militants after canceling a two-year long ceasefire in July. The “bunker buster” bombs contain up to 550 pounds of a mix of TNT and aluminum powder. Turkey plans to use these guided bombs against Kurdish insurgent fighters. The Foreign Military Sales system has come under some controversy recently, with Sen. John McCain and a prominent Air Force general both stating there is no way to track the actual use of the bombs, in addition to the loss of revenue for US defense companies. Margaret J.
