Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker Blamed for Dismantling State Unions

The 2011 anti-union law that passed 4 years ago by Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has been more impactful than first expected, with key state unions reporting 30%-70% drops in union membership. The 2011 law stripped most public-sector unions of their collective-bargaining rights. It also required most public employees to pay more for health insurance and to pay more into retirement savings, resulting in an 8 to 10 percent drop in take-home pay. University of Wisconsin Political Science Professor John Ahlquist said Gov. Walker had “…effectively dismantled the financial and organizing structure of unions in Wisconsin.” Though many conservatives are calling the impact of the laws a success, has this been a crushing blow to workers in Wisconsin? We discuss Gov. Walker and the impact of the law in this Lip News with Jackie Koppell.
