Episode Synopsis

This week on BYOD Ondi and Vlad finish up their three part special edition at Tribeca Film Festival 2012 in New York. What better way to do it than with cartoons, cameras and porn!
We talk to the creators of Sexy Baby, the doc that examines modern sexuality in the information age, then we are joined by Chris Kenneally, director of the film vs. digital opus, Side by Side. Finally, we dig into the incredibly fascinating, small and talented pool of cartoonists with the first time doc filmmaker of Every Tuesday, Rachel Loube.

Guest Bio

Rachel Loube studied sociology at Brandeis University and earned her MFA in social documentary film from the School of Visual Arts in 2011. In addition to Every Tuesday, she produced, directed, and edited the documentary short, This Is Tap, featuring the dancer Michelle Dorrance.

Jill Bauer, Co-Director, Producer, Sound Operator of Sexy Baby, was 15 when she landed her first interview with Barbara Walters and was so taken by the interview process that she never stopped asking questions — especially about relationships, one of her main beats while at the Miami Herald. Bauer is a Hearst and SPJ award-winning journalist and has written for and edited several magazines and newspapers.  She is the author of the non-fiction humor book “From ‘I Do’ to ‘I’ll Sue’: An Irreverent Compendium for Survivors of Divorce.

Ronna Gradus, Co-Director, Producer, Director of Photography of Sexy Baby, was born and raised in New York City. Since a young age she loved to watch people, so when a camera was placed in her hand a documentarian emerged. She graduated with a BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and began her career as a photojournalist. Most notably she was a staff photographer at The Miami Herald where she was dubbed by editors as one of the strongest among the 22-member photography staff. While there, she was sent on several assignments in Cuba and covered Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

Chris Kenneally lives in Brooklyn. He wrote, directed, and produced the doc Crazy Legs Conti: Zen and the Art of Competitive Eating. He is currently in pre-production on a narrative feature about a teenage graffiti artist in Coney Island called Green Dolphin and is developing an episodic series called Chef.

Side by Side is Producer Justin Szlasa’s first feature film, he previously directed and edited the short film Boy Scouts of Harlem.
