Erwin Chemerinsky is a lawyer, professor and the founding dean at the University of California, Irvine School of Law. He is regarded as one of the leading experts in constitutional law and civil liberties and has authored seven books and nearly 200 articles in top law reviews on the subjects. His casebook, Constitutional Law: Principles and Policies, is a widely used law school text-book. He frequently argues appellate cases, including matters before the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeal, and serves as a commentator on legal issues, most famously the 1995 O.J. Simpson trial and recently arguing the state and federal courts recognize marriage equality.

He has taught at the law schools of DePaul University, University of Southern California, and Duke University.
