AN OPEN SECRET the documentary chronicles the sexual abuse of minors in the movie business and in Hollywood, and we hear from subject Evan Henzi and activist Anne Henry about their involvement in the Amy Berg directed project. How Marty Weiss and others managed to assault children for years under the guise of providing career guidance in the film industry, and how Hollywood has turned a blind eye towards the exploitation of children is all explored, as Henzi shares his personal story of abuse and survival. The reforms to the industry, and the steps towards child abuse prevention that are being made are all detailed, with clips and the trailer from the film in this BYOD interview, hosted by Ondi Timoner.
A feature documentary from Oscar nominated director Amy Berg, AN OPEN SECRET is an expose of the sexual abuse of minors in the film business that connects with some of the most high profile and influential members of the entertainment community. The film follows the stories of five former child actors whose lives were turned upside down by multiple predators, including the convicted sex offenders who owned and operated the now infamous Digital Entertainment Network (DEN). Just as suicide was a topic that many shunned, this is one of the last taboo subjects to gain traction in one of the most controversial films of 2015.
Evan Henzi is a student, singer-songwriter and actor. As a child performer, he has performed the song “Bridge of Hope” after working with Grammy winning producer-songwriting Michael Jay for one of 2008 Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich’s campaign events, and has work experience in national commercials and smaller independent films. Recently, Evan was able to co-write—along with composers Gary Lightbody and Johnny McDaid of Snow Patrol, the original song “A Call to Arms” for the Amy Berg’s documentary “An Open Secret,” in which Evan is a featured subject.
Anne Henry is the mother of 3 former young performers, ages 18, 24 and 26, all of which had successful careers. In her life prior to showbiz, she had a 15 year career as a city administrator where her responsibilities included managing parks and recreation departments, special events, and social services including community-wide youth master planning and the development of legislation and public policy. She currently works as an administrator at a private school, and has served as a parent advisor to the Screen Actors Guild National Young Performers Committee.
