MAPPLETHORPE: LOOK AT THE PICTURES documents the life and career of controversial photographer Robert Mapplethorpe who died of aids in 1989. Directors Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato discuss the sexual nature in Mapplethorpe’s body of work and his ability to double as a documentarian. Bailey and Barbato also explain the role the trial with Senator Jesse Helms played in structuring the film and Mapplethorpe’s career in this BYOD highlight hosted by Ondi Timoner.
