THEY CALL US MONSTERS follows three juvenile offenders - Jarad, Juan and Antonio, who are are living in a facility for Los Angeles’ most violent offenders, as they write screenplays while awaiting their trials. Director Ben Lear discusses the shifting narrative of the documentary as Bill 260, which establishes a parole process with different criteria for youth offenders, gets implemented. Lear also addresses the editing of the trial sequences in the film in this BYOD highlight hosted by Ondi Timoner.
