Free the Unicorn author and Scottish Freemason Hugh Gilbert delves into the mysterious side of Christianity in Scotland and reflects on visiting the symbolically rich Rosslyn Chapel.
“I’d been in Rosslyn, and it was beautiful before it was commercialized. It was dark, it was quiet,” Gilbert said. “And Rosslyn’s the kind of place where, I guess the best way to put it is – you don’t go to her, she comes to you. You sit quietly and you will feel the strength in Rosslyn.”
He added: “Rosslyn itself is a coded version of Christianity, which is very connected to the earth… it’s encoded in everything in it. It is also a replica of Herod’s Temple, including the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem – exact replica on the outside – which is where the Templars came from originally.”
Gilbert said that inside the church, symbolism abounds and there are “astronomical symbols and all kinds of stuff - the mysteries go on forever.” He also said one can find every plant in North America, in commemoration of the Sinclair Voyage to America in 1398.
“Rosslyn shows we were there first, the Templars were there first, Templar and Viking connections,” he added.
In the full interview, Gilbert also discusses the Scottish independence movement and the reasons he clearly comes down on the side of secession.
