Hypocrisy by CNN and Others for Not Publishing Controversial Cartoons?

Criminal defense attorney Mike Cavalluzzi comments on the decision by key news organizations - including CNN, the Associated Press and the New York Times - not to publish the controversial cartoons that apparently triggered the recent terrorist attack on the Paris-based magazine Charlie Hebdo.

The apparent hypocrisy shown by these news organizations is discussed, given the choice by media sources not to publish the images they deem sensitive - while at the same time reporting on every aspect of the Charlie Hebdo attack and unity march held later in which world leaders came together to show solidarity for press freedom.

Cavalluzzi said he feels the images should in fact be published in order to protect freedom of speech throughout the world.

“I would come down on the side of hoping that institutional newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Time magazine would in fact publish these images. Because I think freedom of speech is that important – to protect not only in the United States, but in the world,” he said.

“I think that the message needs to clearly be sent to these terrorists who would kill people for exercising their freedom of speech – the message that in fact when they engage in behavior like that, the image will then be telegraphed tenfold.”
