Former French Special Forces member and security expert Fabrice Magnier talks about how the Paris terrorist attack shocked and terrified the city after the deadly attack against the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.
Fabrice also addresses the fact that employees of the magazine had previously been threatened by extremist groups and why more security measures were not taken to protect the offices and staff.
“Routine is our worst enemy, in that case,” he said about prior threats against the satire publication over the years since 2008. “It’s very difficult to protect and maintain such a level of protection for such a long time.”
According to Fabrice, there was only one police officer assigned to protect the director of Charlie Hebdo, but no other security measures were taken.
Speaking about the prevalence of extremist and jihadist groups that have developed in France over the years, he said these organization are actively being traced by police and anti-terrorism agencies. He says French intelligence and authorities have already successfully stopped attacks before they were executed.
