As the Sundance Film Festival prepares to officially kick off this week in Park City, Utah, we take an advance look at one of the top documentary contenders, the film Western by director brothers Bill and Turner Ross.
The doc examines how for generations, all that distinguished Eagle Pass, Texas, from Piedras Negras, Mexico, was the Rio Grande. But that all changes when darkness descends upon these two harmonious border towns, when a cowboy and lawman face a new reality that threatens their way of life.
The film portrays “timeless American figures in the grip of unforgiving change,” according to the official Sundance description.
Festival programmers David Courier and Hussain Currimbhoy give the doc rave reviews for its gripping portrayal - loaded with vérité - of a real-life version of a classic American western.
