SONITA is a documentary about 18-year-old Sonita Alizadeh who dreams of becoming a rapper in order to escape her family’s attempts to arranged marriage. Sonita discusses life after escaping Taliban rule in Afghanistan and how her dream book helped her cope with the obstacles she faces in Tehran. Filmmaker Rokhsareh Ghaemmaghami details the moral and filmmaker dilemma she felt while completing the film in this BYOD highlight hosted by Ondi Timoner.
