Former Miss Turkey Merve Buyuksarac was arrested after quoting a satirical poem online that criticized Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The 26-year-old model who was crowned Miss Turkey in 2006, admitted in an Istanbul court that she “may have quoted a poem” from humor magazine Uykusuz, which satirically insults Erdogan through verses adapted from the lyrics of Turkey’s national anthem. Her arrest is part of the Turkish government’s social media crackdown following the Charlie Hebdo terror attack in Paris. We take a look at the controversy, in this Lip News clip with Elliot Hill and Mark Sovel.
