Niloufar Ardalan aka “Lady Goal” has been granted a one-time exemption by Iranian authorities to play in the 2015 Futsal World Cup event in Guatemala overruling her husband’s prior decision to block her from traveling. Do to Iran’s Islamic sharia law Ardalan’s husband must give permission before she is allowed to travel, a law he enforced during the Asian championship matches. The 30-year-old soccer captain hopes that the exemption sets a recurring precedent that can one day lead to a change in the way Iran views women’s rights and female equality.
