Pope Francis used a ceremony at a war memorial in Italy to speak out about current world conflicts and also warned that World War III may have already begun.
The Argentine pontiff spoke about a “piecemeal” world war that he believes has emerged from various world events that have resulted in monumental crimes and destruction.
“Even today, after the second failure of another world war, perhaps one can speak of a third war, one fought piecemeal, with crimes, massacres, destruction,” he said in a speech during a visit to Italy’s largest war memorial. “War is madness,” he added.
During his visit, Pope Francis was presented with documents by the Italian military relating to his grandfather who fought in World War I.
