Russell Brand Risks Twitter Ban for Posting Reporter’s Personal Details

Comedian/actor Russell Brand is not shy about expressing his personal and political opinions on social media, but now the British celebrity is in danger of losing his Twitter account after tweeting out personal details of a reporter.

Brand – whose most recent public crusade was joining public protests to draw attention to a U.K. housing crisis - published the journalist’s personal phone numbers to his 8.7 million Twitter followers.

The move is an apparent breach of Twitter privacy policies, which prohibit members from posting personal information about others without their permission.

“You may not publish or post other people’s private and confidential information, such as credit card numbers, street address or social security/national identity numbers, without their express authorisation and permission,” the Twitter guidelines state.

But it’s not yet clear whether Brand’s disclosure – which was reportedly retweeted hundreds of times - will be considered an official breach of policy. His Twitter account is currently still up and running.

Some fans tweeted that they had repeatedly called and texted the number to harass the journalist, the Daily Mail‘s Neil Sears.

The comedian later removed the tweet, explaining: “That was a bit nuts. He put it thru me door with ‘please call’ on it. They’re bothering me Mum. Deleted it. I’m human.”
