The new revelation about alleged child molestation by 7th Heaven star Stephen Collins has already led to career fallout for the actor and is once again focusing attention on the widespread issue of child sexual abuse.
Collins – who played a beloved father and pastor in the hit ABC series - allegedly admitted on tape in a therapy session with his wife that he had inappropriate sexual contact with at least three girls.
An alleged audio recording of the revealing therapy session was put online by TMZ.
Collins has yet to comment on the molestation allegations, but he resigned his position on the National Board of the Screen Actors Guild after the audio was made public, and was also fired from a role in the Seth MacFarlane comedy sequel Ted 2.
The case highlights the issue of child molestation across the media and may prompt dialogue and lead additional victims to come forward. Statistics show that an estimated 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys will be sexually abused before they reach age 18.
